DFID CSCF
The Fair Deal for Forest-Dependant Civil Society Program
TFT is creating partnerships for improved forest management between forest managers and civil society organizations through our Fair Deal for Forest Dependant Civil Society program, funded by the DFID Civil Society Challenge Fund. In general, the program has the broad goal of alleviating poverty and protecting natural resources through partnerships between companies managing forests in Indonesia, regional civil society organizations and forest communities. The program links regional non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on natural resource and community development issues with companies managing forests.
The program targets three different types of forests that TFT works with in Indonesia; Natural Forest Concessions, government-managed Perhutani Plantations, and Community forests. One forest project from each category was chosen for inclusion in the program. For each forest project, we then searched for strong regional civil society organizations to partner with on improved forest management, especially the social aspects.

What are the social aspects of forest management? The social aspects of forest management focus on the relationship between forest management and the stakeholders, or people who depend on the forest. This includes communities living in or near the forest, various forest user groups, and government. The program focuses on ensuring that communities' rights, values and priorities are incorporated into forest management plans, and that systems for ongoing community consultation, conflict resolution and monitoring are established. It analyses the social risks facing the forest, and explores productive ways to address and prevent the existing risks.
